Welcome to our shady spot
Summers in Dortmund are getting increasingly hotter and dealing with increasing heatwaves is a major challenge for our city. Heat can have a major impact on our well-being and consequences for our health. One solution is urban greenery, which has a variety of effects, particularly in terms of cooling. So-called “green rooms” are vivid examples of how urban greenery can improve the quality of life in cities and create places to linger, relax and socialise, even in hot weather.
In August 2024, a “Green Room” will offer people a shady spot at various locations in Dortmund to draw attention to the topic of “heat in the city” and the urgent need climate adaptation in cities. This is where research, practice and the citizens come together as part of various information and action days.
You are also welcome to use the “Green Room” to cool off in an attractive shady spot, spend your lunch break, check your emails or simply relax!

Call for Nordtstadt citizens:
In order to develop locally specific measures to deal with heatwaves, we need the support of the citizens of Nordstadt: We have developed a short survey to find out more about your needs, especially on the subject of heat perception, and what measures you would like to see to cope with heat in Dortmund’s Nordstadt district. You will find a QR code at the “Green Room” and on a postcard that will be distributed in the southern part of Nordstadt. As a thank you, we are giving away gift vouchers.
Call for employees in the Dorstfeld-West commercial area:
All employees of the Dorstfeld-West commercial area are cordially invited to use the “Green Room” in August as a place to work outdoors, for internal and external meetings or for lunch breaks. An online calendar is available for fixed bookings. Take your stay in the “Green Room” as an opportunity to think about your needs with regard to the issue of “heat in the working environment” and let us know what measures you would like to see to cope with heat in the Dorstfeld-West commercial area. At the “Green Room” you will find a QR code that leads to a short survey.
