On 09 September, the CATCH4D project team visited the neighbourhood office in the Westerfilde and Bodelschwingh districts. During a participation campaign organised by the ‘Green connects‘ project, residents were able to use the CATCH4D shadow map to find out to what extent planned greening measures can help to cool down the heat-stressed streets of Mosselde and Rohdesdiek. ‘Green connects’ intends to plant a total of 100 trees there, 50 of which are to be planted on public land and 50 others are to be given away to property owners. With the real-time visualisation options of the 3D shadow map, many questions and concerns of local residents were able to be resolved, including whether the planned trees would have a negative impact on the performance of photovoltaic systems. The shadow model will also be used as part of further advice on planting the donated trees on private land.
‘Green connects – cool paths for Westerfilde and Bodelschwingh’ is a project of the Office for Urban Renewal and is funded by the federal programme ‘Adaptation of urban spaces to climate change’.
